Hall Monitor

The Hall Monitor supports a safe, secure, and orderly school environment by supervising hallways, restrooms, entrances, and other common areas during school hours and activities. The position ensures that students follow campus rules, assists with student supervision, and helps maintain a positive and respectful school climate.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Monitors hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, and outdoor areas to ensure safety and appropriate student behavior.
  • Checks hall passes and directs students to class or assigned areas.
  • Assists in preventing unauthorized individuals from entering school grounds.
  • Reports disciplinary issues, safety hazards, or suspicious activity to administration.
  • Assists with student supervision during arrival, lunch, transitions, and dismissal.
  • Encourages positive student interactions and de-escalates conflicts when needed.
  • Supports emergency procedures such as drills, lockdowns, and evacuations.
  • Maintains visibility and approachability to foster a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Communicates promptly and effectively with school staff regarding student behavior and safety issues.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Site Administrator or designee.

Education/Certifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • AZ Valid Fingerprint Clearance Card required.

Experience:

  • Experience working with school-aged children preferred.
  • Prior work experience involving supervision, security, or student interaction is desirable.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Ability to remain alert, observant, and responsive to student activity.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle conflicts calmly and respectfully.
  • Knowledge of school safety procedures and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time and work outdoors as needed.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in indoor and outdoor school environments, including hallways, playgrounds, and common areas. May involve exposure to varying weather conditions and long periods of standing or walking.

Terms of Employment:

9-month year, Classified Hourly Salary Schedule Level C, employee benefits, in accordance with Board Policies. Evaluation: Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Board policy on evaluation of classified staff.
