Major duties of this position include:

  • Mixing soils, water, and amendments for mortars as prescribed.
  • Removing damaged portions of walls or other similar architectural features in preparation for repair of damage stabilization and original fabric.
  • Implementing prescribed preservation treatments (capping, veneering, re-pointing, resetting, new laying, etc.
  • Recording the location, time, materials, and labor involved in the treatment process.
  • Strenuous exertion including hiking, climbing steep slopes, bending, lifting objects up to 50 pounds unassisted, stooping, bending, and kneeling. Some of this work is done on ladders or on scaffolding 5 to 25 feet above the ground.

Saguaro National Park consists of two districts which are separated by the city of Tucson, Arizona, a metropolitan area of over 900,000. The park has 91,446 acres, of which 78% is designated Wilderness, yet it is directly influenced by the surrounding growth and development of Tucson. The impacts of large numbers of residents immediately adjacent to the boundary of the park, when combined with the workload generated by over 700,000 visitors per year, places major emphasis upon the effective execution of visitor services and resources protection operations as well as their coordination in an interagency/interjurisdictional environment.
