Description:

Job Title

Under close supervision, assists students with crossing streets safely to and from school for Sunnyside Unified School District.

Essential Functions:

  • Directs students in accordance with traffic signals
  • Directs oncoming traffic in order to safely escort students
  • Places and removes school crossing signs at designated locations to notify motorists of school crossing
  • Monitors student behavior and environment to maintain safety
  • Reports any misbehavior of students
  • Reports traffic violations over speed limit
  • Adheres to regulations and guidelines governing school crossings
  • Performs related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Other Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of District policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of traffic regulations pertaining to school and pedestrian crossings
  • Knowledge of traffic control devices
  • Skill in assuring safety for students and motorists
  • Skill in directing traffic and pedestrians
  • Skill in following oral and written instructions
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships

Physical Requirements:

  • Work is performed in an outdoor environment
  • Work requires frequent walking, standing, bending, and may require lifting up to 25 pounds
  • May be exposed to traffic hazards extreme weather conditions and infectious diseases

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Additional certifications may also be required as specified by the District
  • Depending on the needs of the District, some incumbents in this class must be able to demonstrate fluency in both Spanish and English as a condition of employment

Salary Grade: A Hourly Pay: $16.50 Hours per Day: 3
