POSITION SUMMARY

An Instructional Coach positively impacts student achievement through the support, training, coaching, and mentoring of novice and experienced teachers. Instructional Coaches build teacher capacity in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, integrating instructional technologies, and effective strategies to increase student learning, engagement, and achievement. Instructional Coaches also support teachers in building positive and efficient classroom environments. They have a heart and passion for helping teachers, and are regarded as champions of MUSD.

Instructional Coaches are considered teacher leaders and are integrated into the culture and community of their school site. They support collaborative teams, the Leadership Team, and site administration to achieve school goals. Instructional Coaches work with every teacher on their campus to impact student learning. Instructional Coaches build positive rapport with colleagues and model a commitment to continuous improvement through lifelong learning. They provide induction fundamentals for teachers new to the district and work with site leadership on designated school goals supporting the consistency of district best practices. Instructional Coaches provide teacher support one-on-one, in small groups (i.e., CTs / Departments), side-by-side in classrooms, through established district structures, and in other essential ways.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide support/mentoring/coaching for novice and experienced teachers in a variety of professional practices (as detailed above)
  • Support all teachers in the purposeful planning of integrated lessons
  • Model instructional strategies, including the use of instructional technology, for colleagues
  • Support all teachers in developing effective classroom routines and procedures
  • Co-plan and co-teach lessons
  • Conduct non-evaluative classroom observations and provide formative feedback
  • Support the development and implementation of High Reliability Schools Levels One, Two, and Three components through membership in the site's Leadership Team
  • Meet with administration regularly to align support and coordinate professional learning according to site needs
  • Collaborate with colleagues to design targeted professional development modules, ensuring alignment across district initiatives
  • Gather and interpret data to inform decisions about instructional practices
  • Present professional development using the Gradual Release of Responsibility Model
  • Work collaboratively with departments and CTs on practices involving curriculum, instruction, and assessment
  • Attend district training/support sessions
  • May be required to participate on a district curriculum committee
  • May be assigned to teach for up to half of the school day
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge and experience with the Gradual Release of Responsibility Model, curriculum implementation, and best practices in the classroom
  • Knowledge of developmental needs of all teachers and how change affects adult learners
  • Knowledge of current district initiatives and best practices: Elementary:
  • Literacy Programs (Scholastic, Fundations, Heggerty) and instructional strategies
  • Eureka Mathematics
  • Integrated Units
  • Standards-Based Grading and Reporting Secondary:
  • Understanding by Design Content Area Units and Performance Tasks
  • Standards-Based Grading Mindset
  • Skill in organizing time and prioritizing workload
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Skill in integrating initiatives into professional practices (i.e., GRR, AZCCRS, technology, assessment)
  • Ability to consistently assess and address the needs of teachers
  • Ability to be self-directed
  • Ability to remain patient and supportive of teachers and self as practice is developed
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, supportive, and confidential relationships with teachers and administrators
  • Ability to work collegially and collaboratively with a variety of colleagues (teachers, fellow coaches, admin)
  • Ability to show flexibility in situations
  • Ability to demonstrate a growth mindset and a willingness to learn on the job
QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
  • Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate
  • At least five years of successful classroom teaching experience (Summative Performance Classification of Highly Effective for at least the past 3 years)
  • Leadership positions over the past three years (i.e., Leadership Team membership, building committee leadership, district committee membership, or department / grade level lead)
  • Experience in mentoring or coaching situations, formally or informally
  • Participation in various professional development activities, including District best practices, during the past three years
Preferred:
  • Master's Degree in relevant educational field
  • Expertise in facilitating professional learning to adults
  • Expertise in using instructional technologies to deliver curricular content to students
  • Teaching experience in MUSD

NOTES

  1. Selected candidates will need to be available for ten additional contract days prior to the start of the regular teacher contract. (3 days before induction begins and then 7 days of induction before returning teachers arrive.)
  2. Selected candidates will be expected to participate in specific professional development opportunities as prescribed by supervisor
  3. Selected candidates will be eligible for a $2,000 Teacher Leadership Stipend, which encompasses providing induction-related professional learning sessions and specific site-based support
  4. As a part of the site leadership team, instructional will also receive for being a part of their site's leadership team.
  5. Selected candidate will be eligible for classroom site fund monies (Prop 301/PBP)


Salary:
$51,050.87 - $55,773.03 (based on current hiring schedule)
