Software Asset Management Specialist

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the full lifecycle of Software Asset Management (SAM), including acquisition, deployment, utilization, renewal, and retirement.
  • Maintain accurate software asset records in SAM tools (e.g., FlexNet Manager Suite, Azure Portal, ILMT, and others).
  • Analyze and reconcile license entitlements against installations to ensure compliance and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Partner with Procurement, Finance, and Legal teams to support contract negotiations, true-ups, and renewals.
  • Manage vendor relationships with major software providers (Microsoft, IBM, Adobe, Oracle, etc.), ensuring alignment with business and compliance needs.
  • Provide regular reporting and insights on software spend, license utilization, and compliance posture.
  • Support internal and external audits, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of software usage data.
  • Develop and enforce policies, procedures, and governance frameworks to ensure SAM maturity across the enterprise.
  • Continuously assess and improve automation and integration between SAM tools and CMDB, procurement, and discovery systems.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in Software Asset Management, IT Asset Management, or Vendor Management.
  • Strong understanding of software licensing models (perpetual, subscription, SaaS, enterprise agreements, etc.).
  • Proficiency with FlexNet Manager Suite, Azure, ILMT, ServiceNow SAM, or comparable tools.
  • Experience managing enterprise licensing for major vendors such as Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, and Adobe.
  • Strong analytical and Excel/reporting skills.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and negotiation skills.

Preferred:

  • ITIL or SAM certification (e.g., ITIL v4, CSAM, CHAMP, or CAMP).
  • Experience integrating SAM data with CMDB or Procurement systems.
  • Background in enterprise software audits and true-up processes.
