Aircraft Worker Position

The primary purpose of this position is to perform aircraft worker duties such as removing, inspecting, cleaning, and installing components and parts, repairing, adjusting, and installing components and parts. Preparing serviceable aircraft parts for return into the supply system. Responsibilities include removing major components of aircraft structure or systems such as control surfaces, fairing, access panels, doors, hatches, landing gear assemblies, engines, activator units, tubing, electrical wiring, and control cables. Lifts aircraft and/or components and installs support fixtures on multiple MDS aircraft. Works with and trains lower grade mechanics to accomplish larger and more complex operations such as jacking and leveling aircraft, lifts of aircraft and/or components and installing support fixtures, installing, and adjusting engines, landing gear assemblies, instrument panels, and flight control systems. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Accomplishes operational and maintenance record keeping, both manual and automated, associated with aircraft maintenance and repair. Performs repairs of limited complexity such as removing worn or damaged gaskets, pneudraulic lines, and couplings, fuel cells, cables, and pulleys, determining when they may be cleaned and reinstalled, or must be replaced.

Requirements include conditions of employment and qualifications. This is an internal Department of Defense vacancy announcement. The area of consideration is limited to civilians currently assigned within the Department of Defense. In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800 Aircraft Overhaul Family. The screen out element for this position is Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Trouble shooting Working conditions include performing work in hanger areas, outdoors, in parked aircraft, and sometimes in hazardous noise areas. Exposed to extremes in heat, cold, and inclement weather. Must work in confined areas and in awkward positions. Exposed to dirt, grease, and aircraft fluids, oil, hydraulic fluid, solvents, and hazardous fluids and gases such as Hydrazine and Halon. Subject to cuts, bruises, muscle strain, and injury from falls off scaffolds, ladders, and aircraft surfaces. May be exposed to intake suction and hot exhaust blast.
