Sociologist

ProSidian seeks a social scientist (contract contingent) in Charlotte, NC / Washington, DC / remote to support an engagement for an agency of the United States government responsible for consumer protection in the financial sector.

The ProSidian engagement team members work to understand and improve consumer financial decision-making skills by researching consumer financial behavior, knowledge, attitudes, perceptions, and experiences, developing innovative approaches to help consumers make better-informed financial decisions, and analyze and study the effectiveness of financial education approaches.

Social scientist candidates shall work to support requirements for PR0001 program support and lead a research project on consumer behavior, knowledge, attitudes, and experiences in order to better understand consumer financial decision-making. Additionally, the social scientist will recommend and develop tools, strategies, and messages for consumers to improve their financial education, conduct field tests and experiments to test the newly-developed tools, and work with other members of the research team to compile research into comprehensive reports.

The social scientist is responsible for:

  • Leading the research team's in-depth research of consumer financial decision-making and the behavior, knowledge, and experience that contribute to those decisions
  • Developing and recommending new tools, messages, and programs to help consumer financial education practices and evaluating how those newly-developed strategies affect consumer behavior
  • Monitoring the implementation of the strategies during field tests, small-scale pilots, large-scale randomized control trials, or other samples
  • Documenting the evaluation and field test findings, producing the market-ready strategies, and compiling the information collected into a final report along with other members of the research team

Qualifications:

The social scientist shall have consecutive employment in a position with comparable responsibilities within the past five (5) years, must be able to use a computer to communicate via email; and proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel/Power point) and related tools and technology required for the position. Work products shall be thorough, accurate, appropriately documented, and comply with established criteria. The candidate shall ensure that duties are performed in a competent and professional manner that meets milestones/delivery schedules as outlined.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required:

  • Master's degree required; doctorate degree preferred in a relevant field or related subject (Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, or similar preferred).
  • At least 5 years of experience providing research management, comprehensive reports, and investigative knowledge.
  • Experience in management of research projects.
  • Experience in data collection, analysis, and written reports summarizing data collected.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively both individually and as a member of a team.
  • Candidate must have strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to propose possible resolutions to complex managerial or operational problems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in knowledge management.
  • Demonstrated pro activity, attention to detail, working within deadlines, and ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, English verbal, written, editing, research, and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel)

Travel: Travel as coordinated with the technical point of contact and approved in writing by the contracting officer in advance, is allowed, in accordance with federal travel regulations.

Location: Work shall be conducted at the Charlotte, NC / Washington, DC / remote.

  • U.S. citizenship required
