Director Of Golf
The Director of Golf oversees all aspects of the Ventana Canyon Club and Lodge operation and coordinates/administers the organization's policies and procedures. Major responsibilities include (but are not limited to) implementing and monitoring the budget, hiring, training and supervising all staff members, marketing the golf course and merchandise, monitoring the quality of course conditions and customer service, ensuring maximum player satisfaction and securing the club's assets, including the facilities and structures.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Hiring, training, developing, and supervising all golf staff, which may include golf professionals, assistants, and support staff.
- Preparing and managing the annual budget, tracking expenses and revenue, and ensuring the financial health of the golf operation.
- Ensuring maximum guest satisfaction, developing member programs, and building positive relationships with members and the community.
- Overseeing daily golf operations, pro shop activities, and merchandise.
- Planning, coordinating, and executing tournaments, clinics, leagues, and other special events.
- Developing and implementing strategies to promote the facility, attract new golfers, and growing revenue through various programs and outings.
- Working closely with the golf course maintenance team (superintendent) to ensure high-quality playing conditions.
- Presenting a clean, pleasant and professional image to project a positive, polished appearance to staff, members/guests and potential clients.
- Managing the Golf Shop Retail operations through proper purchasing, inventory control, promotion and marketing.
- Continuously monitoring and improving product and service in all facets of the golf operation.
- Maintaining an open-door policy for members, guests, and employees.
- Generating policies and procedure guidelines for each facet of the golf operation and insuring proper hiring, training, and supervision of all golf operation employees.
- Developing and delivering a variety of events and programs in conjunction with all the member committees that will improve the participation and enjoyment of the members.
- Working in harmony with Loews Resort and monitoring golf revenues closely.
- Being highly visible to the membership and enthusiastically promoting the game of golf.
- Attending all Golf related Committee meetings. Maintaining an excellent cooperative relationship with the Chair and Committee.
- Maintaining membership with the PGA of America by attending necessary/required seminars and meetings to maintain points.
- Managing the rental and maintenance of the club's golf car fleet as well as private golf cars.
- All other duties as assigned or needed.
Qualifications
Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Knowledge of golf course management software and industry best practices.
- Ability to develop positive and ongoing relationships with members.
- Ability to maintain regular, open contact with both supervisors and staff instructors to ensure teamwork and consistency in teaching programs.
- Ability to encourage staff instructors to engage in learning opportunities to maintain professional expertise and provide resources to meet those objectives.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) at a proficient level.
- Attend conferences, workshops, meetings, and trade shows to keep abreast of current trends in the industry.
Education/Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years as a PGA/LPGA Golf Professional
- PGA/LPGA Professional membership required
- Proven track record of team management, organizational, leadership, and coaching skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of expense control as it relates to payroll, forecasting, and budgeting of expenses
- A bachelor's degree in business management, hospitality, or a related field is often preferred.
- A minimum of five years of experience in golf operations or management.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to physically reach, bend, stoop, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to stand and walk on their feet for 95% of the shift.
- Must be able to work under variable temperature conditions (extreme heat or cold, indoors/outdoors).
- Prolonged periods standing or walking.
