Principal Investigator, Laboratory Manager

SEARCH has an opening for a Full-Time Laboratory Manager to join our Archaeology Lab team. This position is based out of our Tucson, Arizona office. The Laboratory Director will coordinate with Project Managers (PM) and Principal Investigators (PI) to design, plan and implement data analysis of archaeological material from intake to curation in concert with laboratory staff supporting multiple projects, including projects for Federal and State government agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain lab protocols and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Prepare laboratory work plans to meet the needs of each project, including budget, schedule, research questions, analysis, and artifact imaging.
  • Ensure that laboratory analysis adheres to the laboratory work plan developed for each project.
  • Coordinate with PMs and PIs to develop hours estimates for inclusion in proposals.
  • Keep apprised of research literature regarding new methodologies and implement them when necessary or practical.
  • Produce data tables following completion of analysis to be used in the report and report appendices.
  • Maintain compliance regarding industry standards in archaeological curation with corresponding agencies.
  • Provides technical completeness and accuracy of submittals and work performed.
  • Oversee archaeological survey, excavation, and monitoring and subsequent analysis and reporting.
  • Conduct research and analyses of archaeological material.
  • Prepares technical reports documenting the results of fieldwork and archival research.
  • Performs evaluations and makes recommendations for significance, effect, and treatment.
  • Develops work plans, research designs and mitigation proposals.
  • Prepares project budgets and scopes and assures adherence to them.
  • Conducts site file searches at federal, state, and private repositories.
  • Supervise archaeology team members or other staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
