The selected candidate will have an opportunity to be part of a large Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) organization as a Sustainability Coordinator in the role of Environmental Compliance Principal Specialist in Tucson, Arizona.

The Environmental Compliance discipline:

Maintains EH&S Management System Conformance. Achieves and maintains consistency of EH&S record keeping and documentation with organizational and regulatory policy. Prepares and manages documentation relating to environmental compliance and sustainability policies in preparation for both internal and external audit. Provides proper documentation in preparation for permit applications and liaising with governmental bodies.

The ideal candidate will have relevant experience in developing and operating environmental compliance programs, driving sustainability initiatives, and achieving continuous improvement. The candidate should also demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills to positively influence internal and external groups of colleagues including but not limited to engineers, project managers, maintenance technicians, factory line employees, management, etc.

What You Will Do

  • Oversee solid waste and recycling programs across Tucson sites, including vendor and contract management.
  • Lead and expand Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (3R) and solid waste diversion efforts.
  • Analyze and report waste, energy, and water metrics to support internal dashboards and external reporting.
  • Conduct EH&S site inspections and maintain audit-ready documentation for internal and regulatory audits.
  • Advise on environmental compliance obligations during construction and facilities projects.
  • Contribute to RCRA, Clean Water Act, and Air Quality compliance programs.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, and maintenance to embed sustainability into daily practices.
  • Support employee engagement through green team leadership and sustainability communications.
  • Serve as an internal technical expert on federal, state, and local environmental regulations.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Sustainability, or related STEM field and 2 years of experience in environmental compliance or sustainability programs.
  • Experience with waste reduction, recycling, or 3R program management.
  • Experience leading or supporting sustainability projects or BMP (Best Management Practice) initiatives.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Relevant certifications such as CHMM, ISO 14001, RCRA, DOT Hazmat, HAZWOPER.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence cross-functional teams and operations staff.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations (e.g., EPA, CWA, CAA, RCRA).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and environmental tracking tools (Excel, SharePoint, Enablon, or equivalent).
  • Proven ability to submit regulatory compliance reports (e.g., RCRA, stormwater, air permits, wastewater).
  • Experience with environmental compliance in a manufacturing or defense environment.
  • Familiarity with Enablon, Sphera, SAP, Workday, or similar systems.
  • Demonstrated success leading employee sustainability committees or EH&S engagement programs.
