Description:

The Center for Biological Diversity is seeking a detail-oriented Junior Accountant to join our dynamic finance team in support of our mission to protect the planet's biodiversity and fight climate change. As a nonprofit organization, financial integrity and transparency are paramount to our operations, and the Junior Accountant will play a critical role in ensuring that our financial activities align with our mission-driven objectives. In this position, you will assist in maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and supporting the preparation of financial reports. You will work closely with the Senior Accountant to support the day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, and expense tracking. Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of financial records, including general ledger entries, accounts payable/receivable, and bank reconciliations.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations to ensure all transactions are accurate and accounted for correctly.
  • Support the preparation of financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain and organize financial records, ensuring all documentation is up to date and compliant with regulations.
  • Assist in budget preparation and monitoring, providing necessary reports to ensure adherence to financial plans.
  • Provide support during audits by gathering documentation and assisting in the preparation of audit schedules.
  • Collaborate with team members to identify areas for process improvements related to accounting operations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in accounting or finance.
  • Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel, with strong spreadsheet skills.
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles and practices, including GAAP.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to tasks.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
