Schedule: Monday - Friday 8am-5pm, 9am-6pm, 10am-7pm, or 11am-8pm
Pay Range: $15.75 - $20.27 Depending on Years of Experience
JOB PURPOSE: The Driver/Courier is an entry-level position responsible for delivery services to all locations for the Transportation Department and its varied operations at a location assigned by management.
Completing these driving and delivery duties, as well as associated clerical tasks follow well-established procedures and require minimal judgment in their execution. An employee in this position works with direct supervision and review by the Transportation Manager, and any work problems involving departures from standard policies, interpretations, or procedures are communicated to the Transportation Manager for direction or resolution.
Essential Job Functions:
* Completes all driving and delivery duties, tasks, and assignments supporting the Transportation Department's operations within established time frames, meeting established rates of performance for the quality and quantity of work for the position.
* Maintains at all times employee and/or patient confidentiality by controlling the environment and information being disclosed to authorized individuals ensuring compliance with all HIPAA and corporate compliance standards, as well as accepted human resources confidentiality standards.
* Communicates effectively through written, verbal, and interpersonal skills as applied when interacting with employees successfully conveying and exchanging information in a positive manner.
* Delivers and distributes materials, such as: pharmaceuticals, mail, equipment, or materials and supplies in excellent condition and on schedule.
* Loads and unloads delivery materials, using hand trucks or other devices when required.
* Retrieves and delivers cash bags between Health Center sites and the Finance Department, while accompanied by a Security Officer.
* Completes the documentations of all deliveries or patient transportation assignments in the respective logbook in an accurate, timely, and legible manner as required by department policy and procedure.
* Performs daily maintenance and safety checks on the assigned delivery vehicle prior to transporting any materials.
* Documents maintenance and safety checks in accordance with departmental policy and procedures.
* Ensures the timely and accurate communication of any vehicle safety or maintenance discrepancies to the Driver/Courier Supervisor.
* Performs routine maintenance tasks on the delivery vehicle, such as measure fluid levels and replenish fuel, as necessary.
* Demonstrates and maintains an understanding of compliance regarding safety and security requirements and standards related to the transportation of medical or hazardous materials.
* Demonstrates an exceptional level of customer service; answer and respond to all incoming calls, emails, and inquiries in a timely and effective manner, respond to requests for support providing general information in response to inquiries; referring technical inquiries or complaints to the Driver/Courier Supervisor for resolution.
* Maintains a clean, safe, and hygienic work environment in compliance with all Policies and Procedures including but not limited to work areas, workstations, examination rooms, hand washing, infection prevention and control etc. for this position.
* Demonstrates an understanding of and proficiency with the application of all Joint Commission accreditation standards and reporting requirements applicable to a Driver/Courier.
* Identifies and reports any safety hazard, or potential hazard, by immediately notifying supervisory staff and communicating the hazard in compliance with all Policies and Procedures.
* Demonstrates a level of safety, quality, efficiency, and accuracy to ensure the highest standards of excellence.
* Maintains full compliance with all Arizona Statutes and Laws for motor vehicle operation and driver licensing:
* Reports and communicates to the Driver/Courier Supervisor, and the Human Resources Department, by the start of the next business day the receipt of any citation or subpoena by the incumbent for violations of any Arizona Statutes and Laws for motor vehicle operation or driver licensing.
* Maintains and demonstrates safe and effective driving skills that meet defined performance expectations for a Driver/Courier as evidenced by successful demonstration of skills performance for this position upon evaluation or appraisal.
* Identifies and reports any safety hazard, or potential hazard, by immediately notifying supervisory staff and communicating the hazard in compliance with all Policies and Procedures.
* Participates in an initial and annual driving safety program; achieves a passing score on the annual training assessment.
* Participates in annual training on the safety and security requirements of transporting medical and hazardous materials and achieves a passing score on the annual training assessment.
* In accordance with policies and procedures, ensures that documentation of hours worked is completed accurately, and submitted and approved to the supervisor in a timely manner.
* Demonstrates the understanding and skills required to perform all of the assigned responsibilities, tasks, duties with accuracy and efficiency.
* Lifts and carries up to fifty (50) pounds in the course of the deliveries.
Minimum Education and Experience:
* High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.)
* Six (6) months of work experience as a delivery driver or courier.
* Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older for liability coverages.
If applicable, equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, and must be directly related to the functions and responsibilities of the job.
Required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations:
* Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers.
* Level I fingerprint clearance card: current valid and in good standing or have applied for it within seven working days after beginning employment.
* Employees are required to have reliable transportation that can meet any operational reassignments of the organization during the workday. If an employee is driving during work hours, the employee is required to possess a valid driver's license and must comply with Arizona vehicle insurance requirements.
* Current Arizona Driver's License.
* Incumbent must meet qualification requirements for auto insurance coverage by the organizational insurance carrier.
Preferred Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities:
* One (1) year of work experience as a delivery driver or courier.
* Bilingual (English/Spanish) with the ability to speak, read and write in both languages.

El Rio Health requires all employees to have a Level One Fingerprint Clearance card. A.R.S. 36.425.03. If the prospective employee does not possess this prior to hire, fingerprint application must be completed within 7 days post hire. Level One (1) Non-IVP Fingerprint Clearance card must be received within 30 days after applying for the fingerprint card.
All employees are strongly recommended to obtain COVID 19 and maintain vaccination status (i.e., as recommended by CDC and/or other public health agencies) to include an Influenza vaccination. Personnel who decline to receive COVID 19 and/or flu vaccination per most recent CDC recommendations will be recommended to wear a facemask while in an El Rio Health facility, including both clinical and non-clinical areas from November 1 to April 30 (subject to change depending on viral activity). Subject to exemptions and accommodations when required by law.
