Position Highlights
University Facility Services is now recruiting to fill a Material Handler I position for our warehouse. This position participates in work related to shipping, receiving, inspecting, storing, issuing and delivering a variety of materials, equipment, and supplies.
The UFS Warehouse is the central repository for all supplies Facilities Management needs to clean and maintain our campus.
UFS employs just over 600 employees and services over 13 million square feet of campus-keeping the grounds beautiful, classrooms clean, and all utilities moving through the campus.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Handles and
    maintains flow of materials and products in manufacturing, stockroom,
    or warehouse environments.
  • Examines
    incoming shipments for damage or shortages and corresponds
    with shipper to rectify; completes paperwork or forms required for
    documentation.
  • Operates
    motorized and non-motorized material handling equipment. Counts,
    weighs or measures incoming or outgoing items to compare identifying
    information and variety against bills of lading, invoices, orders or
    other records.
  • Orders or
    purchases standard stock items, such as recommending additions or
    deletions to standard stock items or ordering replenishments
    within established procedures and limits
  • Review order sheets based on
    customer orders and pull the right materials for each order; wrap
    materials and put them on a delivery truck.
  • Transport high dollar cost
    equipment, supplies, and materials to customers; secure cargo properly and
    safely with weight evenly distributed.
  • Work closely with the Material
    Control Manager to monitor supply levels and submit purchasing
    recommendations on a regular basis.
  • Unload delivery trucks and make
    sure that each incoming delivery matches the purchase order.
  • Examine incoming shipments for
    damage or shortages and correspond with shipper to rectify; complete
    paperwork required for documentation.
  • Assist with on-the-job training
    to employees and resolve problems utilizing knowledge of receiving/stock
    operations.
  • Operate material handling
    equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, or dollies to move
    stock or reorganize storage.
  • Perform vehicle inspection as
    required by Federal and Arizona State Law; ensure proper documentation and
    package marking with appropriate placards when moving hazardous materials.

Physical
Requirements:

  • Ability to lift/move/transport
    loads of up to 50 lbs

Knowledge,
Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of automated or
    computerized system operation.
  • Knowledge of record keeping
    practices.
  • Knowledge of safety practices.
  • Skill in lifting heavy packages
    and objects.
  • Skill in operating forklift or
    other materials handling equipment.
  • Operating large vehicles in
    tight and congested areas skills.
  • Good communication skills and
    attention to detail.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or
    equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience may be
    required.
  • Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.


Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of shipping/receiving experience.
  • Current and valid OSHA forklift operation certificate.
  • Experience driving cargo vans/vehicles.
  • Prior warehouse experience.
  • Experience working on a college/university campus.
